HERO (Health Education and Research Organization) Cameroon has been doing a tremendous job in Cameroon’s Health Sector.
A couple of Weeks ago, the HERO team was present in Ndop in the NW region of Cameroon to commemorate the Sickle Cell day. Recently same team of young doctors were out to commemorate the World Hepatitis day. Hepatitis in recent times is a silent killer disease and to be able to eradicate such a malaise or at least reduce dead rates, it takes a team such as HERO to educate people on preventive methods and how to take precautions that can avoid infections.

On the World Hepatitis day, HERO team visited Buea, in the SW region of Cameroon, where they met with a couple of workers dealing with the sanitary conditions of the Country. In Cameroon, the company in charge of keeping Cameroon clean is called HYSACAM. For World Hepatitis Day 2017, they screened HYSACAM workers, they are a high risk group and Cameroon is among the top 17 countries worldwide with a high Hepatitis B prevalence. Their aim was to educate these workers about the infection, screen them and tell them the importance of prevention and management.
HERO Cameroon (Health Education and Research Organization), is an NGO with headquarters in the U.K. Their main mission is health Education, health promotion, research and community development. They follow the WHO health day calendars in implementation of some of their projects. The target population of the organization has greatly changed from rural populations to semi-urban populations mainly in Cameroon but increasingly, through social media, they reach a wider audience.
Health was recognized as a prerequisite for economic emergence and this has been demonstrated through previous and future projects in health research and health promotion through health education.
You know how they say, “Health is Wealth”. It means a healthy Country will definitely experience some financial growth, not just because people are healthy and fit to work the money, but also because money meant for treating this diseases will be directed towards the development of other things in the country. HERO is taking those little singles steps that is changing the world.
